I woke up very early this morning and drove to my father's apartment in Perth, Ontario. It was cloudy, and the rain seemed imminent so I wanted to get a move on as early as possible. Tomorrow morning I'll be heading to Ottawa to DFAIT and then the Embassy of the UAE to have my degree and teaching license authenticated. It's looking now like I wasted about $40 having the teaching license notarized as I really don't care if they stamp it and make a mess of it. My degree is a whole other story. It seems I paid dearly in both time and money for it.
I've been spending way too much time lately lurking on facebook and reading posts of other teachers who are about to embark on their journey. In the past two days I've also been reading the blogs and posts of teachers who have already started their journey. The pictures of both the city and the hotel(s) look quite enticing.
Since this whole experience is beginning as a bit of a whirlwind for me, I don't know how much of it has sunk in yet. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to see who wins Big Brother, but really who cares? I'm embarking on the journey of a lifetime.
In looking up the address of the UAE Embassy in Ottawa I came across this quotation from H.H Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
"No matter how many buildings, foundations, schools and hospitals we build, or how many bridges we raise, all these are material entities. The real spirit behind the progress is the human spirit, the able man with his intellect and capabilities.”
I think this speaks volumes as to the scope of this educational reform.
