An update without pictures

It's nearly 10 am here on March 5 in Al Ain, and it's already feeling like a hot June day in Ontario.  When I made the decision to come here nearly 8 months ago, I knew that the weather would be something that I'd definitely have to adjust to.  There would be no winter to contend with, no rain to be seen, and heat would be abundant.  So far, I have been able to adjust to these temperatures but I'm worried that as the temperatures climb, I will begin to find 25 degrees to be far too cool.   What's going to happen if I return home this summer and feel cold in the seasonally warm temperatures?   Probably nothing, but the thought still scares me.

It's been a bit of a strange week here with plenty of ups and not so many downs.  The children, while still a bit unruly are really making progress.  I have heard them speaking small sentences in English, and their results on the weekly tests are continuing to improve.  If we only had proper readers for the children to work from, I just know that they'd all be reading at their maximum potential.  Report cards are due in the next 3 weeks and I really need to get my stuff together to enter their marks.

As far as ups go, Heather and I were unable to book a trip to Maldives for a reasonable price so we had to look elsewhere to find a trip that was within reason.  We managed to find a trip for about 5,000 dhs a piece to Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi, Malaysia.  Both locations had 4 star hotels that we could afford, and in Langkawi it looks like the resort has many things we can do.   We'll be gone from March 25 - April 2, returning to work on April 3.   It's going to be a rough week after that, but hopefully I'll have everything ready for it well in advance.   Of course I will be bringing my camera, and that should keep many of you pacified.

If you had told me a year ago that I would have visited Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia, and be living near Dubai I would have told you that you're crazy.  I guess what I'm learning is that you need to expect the unexpected and take the opportunities that come your way.  I surely don't regret this!
